PEORIA — A transfer from a Big Ten school and 12 incoming freshmen make up the Bradley soccer team's recruiting class, announced by veteran coach Jim DeRose on Wednesday.
The newcomers are from six states and two foreign countries. In-state recruits are Springfield High forward Danny Collins, Maine South midfielder/forward Alex Olson, Jacksonville midfielder/forward Reed Rogers and Naperville Central's Cameron Strang, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound defender.
Former Penn State midfielder Mikey Conneh transferred to Bradley during the winter break. From England, he started four matches over his two seasons with the Nittany Lions. Defender Rasmus Smidtslund joins the Braves after fulfilling his military service commitment in his native Finland.
The new group joins an experienced roster that returns 14 lettermen from an 8-5-4 season. The Braves bring back top scorer and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region selection Gerit Wintermeyer (eight goals, four assists in 2018).
Also in the 13-player recruiting class are Jack Armitage of Lakeville, Minn.; Robert "Guy" Beasley of Brandon, Mich. Erik Catus of Des Moines, Iowa; Daniel Chandler of Frisco, Texas; Jack Douglas of St. Louis; Devin Slingsby of Beaverton, Ore.; and Camden Starzyk of Lake St. Louis, Mo.
